Croatian Post Inc. Starts Construction on the New Sorting Centre

Investment aimed at strengthening logistics capacities and improving the efficiency of postal processes

Zagreb, 16 May, 2017 – Croatian Post Inc. has started construction on the new sorting centre on a site at the entrance to Velika Gorica, in proximity to the international airport. Today the foundation stone was laid down by Ivan Čulo, the CEO of Croatian Post Inc., Tomislav Mihotić, State Secretary for Infrastructure at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure and Velika Gorica mayor Dražen Barišić. Mayor Barišić was also an envoy of the President of the Croatian Government and President of the Croatian Parliament.

The HRK 345 million project is a capital investment for Croatian Post, which will further develop its logistics capacities in Croatia. The total works on the new sorting centre are worth HRK 155 million and the contractor working on the new sorting centre of Croatian Post is a consortium consisting of a Požega-based company Presoflex gradnja and a Slovenian company GH Holding. Works will be supervised by IGH from Zagreb and project design is signed by APZ inženjering.

The site of the new sorting centre is in a strategically important location for the development and improvement of the postal items transfer process. The Gradići neighbourhood, in addition to proximity to the new Franjo Tuđman International Airport, is also not far from the access to the Zagreb – Sisak expressway and the Zagreb – Velika Gorica fast road.

The construction will involve two stages and the total surface area of the site where in the upcoming 18 months first part of the sorting centre will be built is 70,200 sq. m. On completion of all stages of construction, the complex will cover 38,200 sq. m.

In the first stage 32,000 sq. m of the sorting centre will be completed and include:

  • sorting facilities
  • high-rack warehouse
  • transformer station and boiler room
  • data centre
  • total infrastructure
  • 540 parking spaces for personal and technological vehicles
  • part of the administrative building
  • landscaping of 16,000 sq. m of green surfaces.

This project is of great importance, because the construction of the new sorting centre which will serve as a logistics post centre will improve the quality and increase the speed of meeting conditions for all postal services market-related processes. The biggest advantage for Croatian Post and end users of postal services across Croatia will undoubtedly be faster and more efficient sorting and forwarding of postal items. The new sorting facility will facilitate Croatian Post’s faster development and upgrading of the entire postal system, services and the organisation itself.
