Ivan Čulo named Chairman of the Postal Service Providers Association at the Croatian Chamber of Economy
Ivan Čulo, CEO of Croatian Post d.d., was named Chairman of the Postal Service Providers Association at the Croatian Chamber of the Economy at the plenary voting session held on 23 January 2019. Srebrenka Saks, Director of DHL Express, was appointed Deputy Chairman, while Ljubica Herceg from the Transport and Communications Sector at the Croatian Chamber of the Economy was named Secretary of the Association.
"The postal profession, as well as much of the economy, has been significantly influenced by the digitalisation of society, the rise in the share of online shops and the increasing demand for service quality by consumers. This is why raising the standard of distribution, especially in the area of parcel distribution, which has experienced exceptional growth, will be a top priority for the Association. We would like the activities of the Association and cooperation with the Croatian Chamber of the Economy to contribute to the development of a legal framework for professional work by placing a special emphasis on guaranteeing that all market participants have the same rights and obligations regarding service provision,“ said Čulo following his appointment at the helm of the Association, also pointing out that the postal profession, unlike most others, is unique due to the geographical factors, particularly population density, having a significant effect.
"Even though this profession encompasses approximately 20 businesses, it employs as many as 15,000 people, which gives credence to its importance for the economy,“ said Mirjana Čagalj, Deputy Chairwoman for Construction, Traffic and Communications of the Croatian Chamber of Economy, emphasising the cooperation with other associations through the network of the Croatian Chamber of Economy, while taking into account issues of interest for several industries. "For example, the Croatian Chamber of the Economy provided support to the Road Freight Transport and Road Passenger Transport Associations in their participation in the drawing up of the new Excise Duty Act, which enshrines the right to an excise duty refund for diesel fuel that was used for the commercial transport of goods and passengers and bought with a cashless payment instrument in Croatia. This will account for annual savings of approximately 300 million HRK, which is an important benefit for postal service providers, too,“ noted Čagalj.
