In the European Union, VAT will be charged on all shipments from third countries starting from 1 July
 
ZAGREB, 30 June 2021 - On Thursday, 1 July, new rules for taxation of postal consignments from third countries containing goods come into force. Under the provisions of Council Directives (EU) tax reliefs are eliminated when importing shipments from third countries worth up to EUR 22 (HRK 160) bought from e-commerce websites.

VAT will be charged on all shipments with goods that arrive in Croatia from 1 July, regardless of the date of purchase.

Shipments arriving these days from abroad to the facilities of the New Sorting Center are being rapidly prepared for delivery and sent to users' addresses. Despite large quantities of shipments arriving each day to the New Sorting Center, there are no delays and shipments are being held in sorting facilities for a minimum amount of time. Shipments that arrived today or yesterday are currently being processed, and the employees of the International Affairs Sector are making great efforts in order to process all low value shipments before the entry into force of the new taxation rules, i.e., in order not to charge VAT and perform a control inspection.

Considering that all shipments with goods arriving from third countries will have to go through a control inspection, the Croatian Post introduced new ways of processing, charging and delivery of shipments. The cost of the control inspection of shipments from third countries containing goods worth up to EUR 150 is HRK 18.50, while the cost of goods worth EUR 150 to 1000 is HRK 37.00. The compensation amount is formed based on additional costs. The control inspection of shipments from third countries is a process that contains various data, it requires implementation and maintenance of a new computer system and it implies a more complex operational control performed by the Croatian Post employees.
